Competition Results Ladies Doubles Linda Wheeldon and Sheila Trail retained their title at their home club, Allestree BC, on a day when the weather made bowling conditions difficult. At one time play was suspended when the green was white over with hailstones - welcome to the new season. 24 Pairs entered the competition. Most of the 'favourites' progressed to the quarter-finals where there were some very good games. Lynn Woodward and Denise Landers defeated the strong pairing of Lin Baghurst and Sharon Tatem and went on to meet Nicola Potts and Jess Robison who won well against home pair Ann Ward and Sylvia Hughes in their quarter-final. In the other half of the draw both games went 21-17 with the eventual winners being joined by Jackie Draper and Lynn Wilkins. Linda and Sheila won a very close game 21-20 in their semi-final while Nicola and Jess had a more comfortable 21-9 in theirs. The final was notable for some excellent bowling by Linda, who led well throughout, ably backed up by her partner Sheila. Result sheet for the day is attached below.
